This past SDCC, Saturday to be exact. A rumor appeared online. Claiming that DC/WB was going to announce a Wonder Woman film, to be written and directed by David Goyer of Blade and Batman Begins writing fame. Well that’s all it ended up being, a rumor. Never happened. Another con goes by and no news on a Wonder Woman movie. But this got me thinking, who should make the Wonder Woman movie when it eventually happens? I think Goyer is a good to great writer, but his directing has never amazed me. So who’s my dream team? Who are the film makers I’d love to see be announced as the director for Wonder Woman? Let’s take a look.
My first five choices were more conventional action director’s. All at the top of their game, but director’s known for action. With the last five, I want to bring different taste to the table. Who’d be an interesting choice to direct Wonder Woman? Even if it was a failure, it’d be a fantastic failure
6. Terry Gilliam

Terry Gilliam is a rather infamous director. Making some of the more whimsical films of the last 20 years and bringing a flair for the imaginative to each of his pictures. He’s also notorious for having problems getting his films off the ground. There’s the rumor that Gilliam is some how “cursed”. Most of his films since Brazil have struggled to get to the finish line and to the eyes of audiences, the most famous example being “Lost in La Manchia” a documentary following Gilliam as he and Johnny Depp try to make a Don Quixote movie, and fail.
Wonder Woman has had struggles as well getting to the big screen, getting passed from director to director, vision to vision. The fact that she is one of the big three and one of the more recognizable super heroes (even if she’s not the most read) and is yet to have a big screen feature is proof of that. I think Gilliam and Wonder Woman could be a great combo, but it’d take a while to get made.
Gilliam is an artist, almost first and foremost. He started off as an artist and later director with Monty Python and moved on from there. All of Gilliams’ films, even if they don’t work, have something there, and that’s heart and passion. Gilliam brings his passion to every picture and an interesting visual look. Not sure how his action scenes would hold up but I believe you’d be able to comprehend the action. And give Terry Gilliam time on an island run by Amazons, and you’ll get yourself and interesting picture. And who wouldn’t want to see a Terry Gilliam Cheetah, that alone would be worth the price of admission. These reasons and more are why I’d love to see Terry Gilliam make Wonder Woman.
Director’s Recommendations: 12 Monkeys, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
